Research and gathering references are a big part of my personal practice that I encourage all of my artist friends to engage in. One main source that has been especially helpful for me is Instagram. Having the "Save" and "Collection" features are amazing, and it really helps to catalogue and organize the many sources that I gather from my feed. You don't have to worry about your research being specifically art-based; embrace the variety of sources that might inspire you or your work. It's a fun way to keep your mind on your practice even when you might not be able to get into the studio.
